Delicious chocolate ice cream mixed in with dark chocolate chunks and chopped hazelnuts. This ice cream is so chocolaty and creamy you would never know it was made with bananas.
This Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Cream recipe is slightly healthier than regular ice cream. What we mean is that this ice cream isn’t totally healthy because it does have Nutella mixed into it. But it is so good and gives the ice cream an amazing hazelnut flavor.
Ice cream is our absolute favorite dessert and as you might have noticed we make a lot of ice cream recipes here on the blog. The reason being is that ice cream can be made into any flavor you want. Plus there are so many different ways to enjoy it. In a bowl, cone, with cake, pie or cookies. It’s a very versatile dessert.
Now that we have you wanting a scoop of ice cream let’s get started on making some Chocolate Hazelnut ice cream.
The great thing about this recipe is that we don’t need an ice cream maker. All you need is a blender or food processor. But before we start blending everything together the first thing we need to do is slice up four bananas and pop them in the freezer for about two or three hours.
Now that our bananas are nice and frozen we can start blending everything together. In a food processor or blender blend together the frozen banana slices, cacao powder, and vanilla extract.
What is cacao powder? Is it different than cocoa powder?
Although they look the same cacao powder and cocoa powder are very different.
Cacao powder is made with unroasted cacao beans. This keeps the living enzymes in and removes the fat. Cacao powder has more health benefits too. Here are a few benefits: it can lower insulin resistance, aid in weight loss, and it’s high in antioxidants.
Cocoa Powder is raw cacao beans that have been roasted at high temperatures which causes the bean to lose its nutritional value.
After everything is nice and blended together it’s time to add in the Nutella. Blend with the other ingredients until it is nice and creamy.
Next, transfer the ice cream mixture to a freezer-safe container but first, we are going to create a layer in the container so we get a nice layer of hazelnuts, chopped dark chocolate, and ice cream. In a freezer-safe container add one layer of the ice cream mixture. Next, add the chopped hazelnuts and chopped chocolate. Then add the rest of the ice cream mixture and then top that with the rest of the chopped hazelnuts and dark chocolate.
Cover and let it freeze for about four hours or overnight.

Chocolate Hazelnut Ice Cream
- 4 Bananas Frozen and sliced
- 4 tbsp Cacao Powder
- 2 tbsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup Nutella Hazelnut Spread
- Chopped Hazelnuts
- Chopped Dark Chocolate or Dark Chocolate Chips
- Slice four bananas and place in the freezer for about two or three hours.
- In a food processor or blender blend together frozen banana slices, cacao powder, and vanilla extract.
- Next, add the Nutella and blend until nice and creamy.
- In a freezer-safe container add a layer of the ice cream mixture and top that with a few chopped hazelnuts and chopped dark chocolate. Then add the rest of the ice cream mixture on top of that and add the rest of the hazelnuts and chocolate.
- Cover and freeze for 4 hours or overnight.
