As we grow closer to the Fourth of July that means it is time to take out the grill. We have a classic for you today the Juicy Lucy burger.
Tender, juicy beef burger with an ooey gooey cheesy center. Doesn’t that sound mouthwatering?
We are going to share some tips and variations on this classic recipe.
What is a Juicy Lucy?
A juicy lucy is a mouthwatering beef burger with a cheese center that melts out of the burger when you bite into it. It is so delicious as we type this up it is making us hungry.
With our juicy lucy we like to use all ground beef, but another meat we like to use it ground brisket.
A mix of ground brisket and ground beef. It is juicy and it creates an awesome flavor. Give it a try you will thank us.
Making the patties:
This has helped up in making the perfect size burger. We are not fans of thick burger patties (mondo burger size) So we are sharing a tip on how we make our patties.
The first thing first is grabbing 4oz of meat. We are going to shape that into balls.
Place the meat onto individual square pieces of parchment paper. Place a piece of parchment on top and on the bottom.
Using a small frying pan squish, the meat into a thin patty. Make sure you have an even amount of meat patties since you will be stack two together.
Repeat this for every scoop of meat. For the patties, you don’t use place them in a freezer bag and save them for later. Frozen patties should be good for 1 month.
What kind of cheese:
When it comes to what kind of cheese the possibilities are endless.
We like the classic cheddar cheese in our burgers. There are days when we like our burger to have a little kick of spiciness. That is when we use ghost pepper cheese. It is delicious and great for those who like spicy foods.
Some other cheeses we recommend are:
- Pepper Jack Cheese
- Blue Cheese
- Swiss Cheese
- American Cheese
Remember these are just recommendations feel free to choose any cheese you like. Hey, you never know what flavor combo you will discover.
This step literally takes less than 2 minutes. Add the cheese of your choice onto the middle of the beef patties.
Place another meat patty on top and seal the two patties together using your fingers.
Making the Burgers
We like to make our burgers out on the grill on medium heat. It gives these burgers a nice flavor and less of the mess in the kitchen.
Depending on how well you like your burgers done time will vary. We like our burgers medium-well so we cook our burgers for about 7 minutes on one side and about 5- 7 minutes on the other side.
Now depending on your grill and like we mentioned on how you like your burgers the time will vary.
When it comes to the bun it may not seem important, but it can be a game-changer when it comes to the pairing the meat and the bun.
What we mean is that the bun is just as important when you want a delicious tasting juicy lucy.
We recommend two types of buns:
- Brioche Buns
- Potato Buns
- 2 lbs Ground Beef
- Sliced Cheddar Cheese or your favorite cheese
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Garlic Salt
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp Red Pepper
- Splash of Worchester Sauce
- Brioche or Potato Buns
- Red Onions
- Barbeque Sauce
- In a small bowl add all the seasoning ingredients together.
- Divided the ground beef into 6 even sections.
- Place one of the patties on the bottom and place the cheese into the middle of the patty.
- Grabbing another patty place that patty on top.
- Pinch together the edges of the two patties (create a seal). Repeat for the rest of the patties
- Season each side of the meat patties.
- **Depending on your grill and how you like your burger the time will vary.
- We like our burgers medium-well so we cooked our on medium heat for about 7 minutes on each side.
- Time to add the fixing. The bun, lettuce, tomato, etc...
- Add a side of fries or some chips and enjoy!
