Creamy Vanilla Brown Sugar Ice Cream.Brown sugar-flavored ice cream with specks of vanilla bean.
We are not big fans of the Summer months (give us Autumn or Winter and we are happy) living in Texas is gets quite hot. We can’t do much for the hot weather, but we can cool ourselves down with some ice cream. Since we got our own ice cream maker, we have been making a lot more homemade ice cream and buying less store-bought. Also that fact that we can’t really leave our home yet.
We decided to make some Brown Sugar ice cream to go with some brown butter oatmeal cookies we made from Butternut Bakery. We have got to say the pairing was perfect. The oatmeal cookies were soft, and the ice cream was creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness.
Let us show you how we made the ice cream.
You will need an ice cream maker for this recipe.
Ingredients you will need:
- Whole Milk
- Vanilla Bean Paste
- Heavy Cream
- Brown Sugar
As you can see you don’t need much for this ice cream.
Light Brown Sugar vs. Dark Brown Sugar
What makes them different is the amount of molasses that goes into it.
Dark brown sugar has more of a molasses, caramelized flavor because it has a larger amount of molasses.
Because we want a lighter molasses flavor that is not too rich we are going to use light brown sugar for this ice cream recipe.
This ice cream doesn’t take that much time to make.
The first thing we are going to do it make our base before we add it into our ice cream maker to churn it.
Making the ice cream base:
In a small saucepan on medium-low heat add the milk, egg, brown sugar, and vanilla bean paste.
Stirring constantly until it reaches a temperature of 175° (F).
Once it reaches the right temperature remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the heavy cream.
Pour the mixture into a heatproof bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Place in the freezer for two hours.
After the two hours pour the mixture into your ice cream maker. Follow the manufacture instructions to your ice cream maker.
After the ice cream has churned you now have yourself some brown sugar ice cream.
This ice cream is delicious on its own, but we thought it taste even better as an ice cream sandwich.
You can pair it with your favorite cookies.
Like we mentioned earlier we made our ice cream sandwich with Butternut Bakery’s brown butter oatmeal cookies. It was a treat that we will definitely be making again. Maybe next time we will try it with a chocolate chip cookie.
